| USRA 2-8-2 Mikado Steam Engine
At the HobbyVisions 2003 show
in Las Vegas Model Power was showing off the new 2-8-2 Mikado with Vandy Tender.

Prepared - Four wires have been run into the tender, two from the driver pickups
and two to the motor. Plenty of room exists for the installation of a decoder,
very possibly even a sound decoder.

| We have test run
several of these engines and so far we are impressed. The electrical pickup seems
to be improved over the Pacific. The engine has some gear noise, I suspect this
seems louder than normal because of the metal cast boiler acting as an amplifier.
But the speed range was excellent (top speed of about 120mph) with very good low
speed performance. This engine will creep right thru a turnout without a hitch.
For Model Power, this is very impressive. |
