The GG1 was designed in 1934 and the first one hit the rails in 1935. A total of 139 were built by 1943. Rated at 4,620 horsepower and capable of speeds as high as 100mph. First placed into passenger service and then later in life regeared for freight. Some running as long as 40+ years into the 1980's.
