Originally built with a 6 track gauge, the Erie became the favorite route for high wide loads. The line linked Chicago with Buffalo and New York. The boxcars roamed the country carrying finished industrial goods from the manufacturing centers of the Industrial Northeast. They were also known for one of the prettiest locomotive fleets in the industry, and these cars would be perfect behind steam or first generation diesels. These cars were built in the late 40s and early 50s, and ran through the early seventies after the roofwalks were removed.
The models feature 6 opening doors (pat pend), diagonal panel roofs, and 4-3-1 Improved Dreadnaught ends. The Apex roofwalk, stirrups, and Ajax brakewheel are all etched metal. The cars are equipped with 50 ton trucks and refined knuckle couplers developed jointly by deLuxe and Intermountain.
