The DN142 decoder is designed specifically for N-scale applications and take into account the slightly higher current draws of Kato locomotives. Because DN142's are rated at 1 amp, they give better long term reliability in these very popular N scale engines. DN142's are also great for HO modelers for installation in small switchers and steam locomotives and since they are rated at 1 amp they work very well in these applications. The DN142's real FX capabilities let N-scalers have the option of prototypical light operation in the locos without having to use any additional space for light boards.
