When built in March 1937, this 50’ steel side, 14 panel, fixed end gondola was used by its owner, ATSF, as a revenue car. However, in April 1980 it was reassigned to maintenance of way. At that time it was repainted in this scheme of aluminum with black lettering. The markings are retained from its previous scheme, but all advertising was removed. Also the class designation was changed from GA-47 to WA-47. This scheme is typical of ATSF MW rolling stock. ATSF 208552 MW has a 3,250 cu ft, 154,000 lb capacity and rolls on Barber® roller bearing trucks.
