These Pennsy class H43 hoppers are based on Norfolk and Western's class H11a. They are 100 ton 3-bay hoppers with rib sides. The Samuel Rea Shops in Hollidaysburg, PA built and painted them black with white markings on sides and ends. When built in March 1964 they were part of a 2,000 car fleet. The large yellow circle on the left end indicates that they are for unit train operation. When coal loads are piled high, these hoppers are capable of hauling a 3,418 cu ft, 200,000 lb payload. In February 1968, PRR merged with New York Central. This release of 108042 is equipped with coal loads #1 and #3. |
