These cars are 100 ton 3-bay open hoppers with rib sides. They are painted black with yellow lettering on sides and ends. The Seaboard Logo is in red and yellow. Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown, PA, built 2,000 of these class HT hoppers for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad in June 1971. In December 1982 the L&N merged with Seaboard Coast Line to form the Seaboard System. This fleet of open hoppers was subsequently repainted in SBDs livery in November 1983. These 3,433 cu ft capacity cars were originally designated as chip hoppers, but as early as 1991 they were seen hauling coal. In 1986, SBD became part of the CSX which ultimately merged with the C&O.
