These 50ft. 6in.troop sleepers
are painted in MOW silver with the “flying” Rio Grande logo. They
still wore their original Allied full cushion trucks long after
they were outlawed in interchange service. In 1943-1944 the Defense
Plant Corporation received a contract to build 2,400 troop sleepers,
800 troop kitchen cars and 40 hospital kitchen cars. After the
war, Denver & Rio Grande purchased a number of the cars and
used them for outfit service. The AX-2410 MW is employed as a
“Foreman Office Car” and the AX 2566 MW is employed as the “Outfit
Service”. |
