These 50ft. 6in. troop sleepers
are MOW green with yellow trim and yellow lettering and run on
black Allied full cushion trucks. Built by Pullman-Standard, troop
sleepers were used for troop transport across the nation. After
WWII, the cars became surplus. C&O® X955 was formerly
numbered 8073 by the War Assets Administration, which had the
responsibility of disposing of the surplus troop sleepers. C&O®
first purchased and converted the former troop sleepers to MOW
in 1948 and painted them gray with black roman lettering; they
were repainted green with yellow trim at the Parsons Yard in Columbus,
Ohio in 1958. X955 remained on the roster into the Chessie era
and was renumbered 911127 in 1982. |
