This 40’ USRA steel box car, single door, overlapping flat panel roof was built in April 1937 by Pullman Standard at Hamlet, North Carolina, and was serviced at the same location 19 years later in May 1956. It is painted box car red with red and white logo and white lettering. ‘Route of the Silver Meteor’ advertises SAL’s premier train service. Number 18198 is part of a 1,000-car fleet of class B-6 box cars which serviced SAL well into the 1960s. This 100,000 lb capacity unit is equipped with Bettendorf trucks.
