This 30' standard box car with single door, painted box car red with white lettering was built in 1897 and comes with Barber Coleman Archbar trucks. The Sandy River Railroad was started in 1879 to connect northern Franklin County with Maine Central Railroad, which terminated in Farmington. In 1908, the Sandy River merged with all of the other Franklin County Liliputs and emerged as the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad. Its untimely demise, due to the advent of autos, came in June 1935. Cars were sold or burned leaving an occasional box car acquired by an area resident or business, mostly for storage uses.
