This 40' standard box car with single door is painted box car red with aluminum roof. The lettering is white with white and black logo. RI 23220 was built in March 1952 by American Car & Foundry in Chicago and comes equipped with black Bettendorf trucks. By 1933 the Rock Island survived receivership twice, but could not weather a third bankruptcy in 1975. After a clerk's strike in August 1979, the ICC ordered the Kansas City Terminal to take over the operations of the rail. The courts then ordered the liquidation of the company and in March 1980 Rock Island operated its last train.
