This 40' standard box car with single door was built by Pullman-Standard in Hammond, Indiana, in October 1944. It was painted hopper red with white lettering and black and white logo. #31728 was equipped with six-foot Youngstown doors and Dreadnaught ends. The 31000-32999 road series was the largest block of cars delivered to the New Haven during World War II.
