This 40' standard box car with plug and sliding door was built in October 1953 and subsequently serviced in October 1956 at Great Northern’s St. Cloud, Minnesota shops. It is painted red with white lettering, and black and white logo. The plug and sliding door configuration was designed to accommodate two specific types of lading—lumber and grain. When lumber was loaded both doors could be opened to provide a 12’ wide opening. While loading grain, the plug door was sealed providing more wall space and increasing the strength of the car.
