NP built this 40 standard box car with plug and sliding door at their Brainerd, Minnesota shops. They painted the entire car, including trucks and underframe, in dark box car red. The lettering is white and the NP monad herald is red, white, and black. NP 8719 is part of a 1,835-car fleet that the road built between 1958 and 1964. The combination doors are to accommodate large unit loads (such as lumber), or small unit loads (such as bagged grain). With a line between the Great Lakes and Puget Sound completed in August 1883, NP was Americas second transcontinental railway. |
