In May 1947, 1,420 of these 40’ standard box cars with single door and without roofwalk were delivered to Gulf, Mobile & Ohio. This unit is painted red and lettered in white. It was originally built with a roofwalk, but when serviced in September 1968, the roofwalks were removed and the ladders were shortened. GM&O 21587 has a 110,000 lb capacity and rolls on Bettendorf trucks. This fleet served GMO for many years but by April 1981 only two cars remained on their roster.
