In January 1978, Railbox took delivery of this 50' rib side box car with plug and sliding door, and without roofwalk. It is painted yellow with black lettering. The 5,277 cu ft box is equipped with Barber® roller bearing trucks. In January 1974, the TTX Company, headquartered in Chicago, formed a subsidiary to operate a pool of free-running box cars. The subsidiary’s name was ‘Railbox Company’ and the cars’ reporting marks were ABOX and RBOX. The job of this subsidy was to provide relief for the shortage of unassigned general service box cars.
