Alaska Railroad Built this 50 standard box car with plug door in Anchorage in August 1943. It is part of a 49-car fleet that was later rebuilt in June 1948. Sixteen years after that they were repainted in this scheme of bright yellow with black lettering and black McKinley National Park Route herald. The railroad adopted this design after Alaska became a state in 1957. This 2,780 cu ft, 100,000 lb capacity box car is equipped with Bettendorf trucks. The Alaska Railroad is a descendant of two short lines, the Alaska Northern Railway and the Tanana Valley Railroad.
