This 40' Despatch
stock car was built in February 1941 by American Car & Foundry.
It is painted box car red and lettered in white. It is equipped
with black Bettendorf trucks. Established in 1889, the ACL was one
of the predominate railroads in the South. With trains like the
Champion and the Florida Special, which connected with the Pennsylvania
RR at Richmond, ACL operated a large portion of the New York to
Florida passenger traffic. By 1950, the Atlantic Coast Line possessed
more than 5500 miles of rail. |
