Norfolk & Western Road #33000 40' Despatch Stock Car Part #MTL-35150 N Scale Supply Price: New Release Date: April 2001
Originally built by Ralston in March 1923, this 40 despatch stock car was rebuilt by N&W in 1935. At that time the entire fleet was converted to class SK (single deck, single door) stock cars. They were painted box car red with white lettering. These Bettendorf-truck equipped cars had a 3,065 sq ft, 100,000 lb capacity. In 1955 the fleet was renumbered and 27 years later only 21 of these cars remained in service. Though Norfolk & Western, headquartered in Roanoke, VA, hauled many different products, including livestock, they were best known for dragging coal, and were leaders, well into the 1950s, in moving that commodity. |
