| This 40’
despatch stock car is painted box car red with white lettering has
a capacity of 80,000 lbs and runs on black Bettendorf trucks. Built
in April of 1936 this car was restored by the C&O® in 1955
and photographed in service in 1963. Part of the “SM”
class, this type of stock car was used for transportation of stock
on the hoof, and is equipped with roof, slatted sides and side doors,
and single deck. These stock cars may be equipped with feed and
water troughs. |
