Originally built in August 1924 by Youngstown Steel Car Company, this 40 double-sheathed wood box car with single door and vertical brake wheel was rebuilt by Rutland in May 1957. It was part of an 89-car fleet that was repainted in mineral brown and stenciled in white. Some of the cars were not given the Route of the Whippet slogan. The rebuilding project started at the beginning of WWII and continued through the 1950s. Number 6043 has a 2,984 cu ft, 80,000 lb capacity and rolls on Bettendorf trucks. Today the restored prototype can be viewed at the Strasburg Railroad Museum in Pennsylvania.
