This 40’ double-sheathed wood box car with single door and vertical brake wheel was built in June 1925 by General American Car Company. It has a 100,000 lb capacity and rolls on Bettendorf trucks. It is painted box car red and lettered in white. The UP ‘Overland Route’ shield is in red, white, and blue. A ‘financially healthy’ railroad, the UP has been active in mergers since 1950. On September 11, 1996, UP bought SP, making it the largest railroad in the United States. With about 32,000 miles of track, the new UP, is slightly larger than the recently merged BNSF.
