| This 40’ double-sheathed wood box
car with a single operating door and vertical brake wheel is painted
box car red with white logo and lettering. It was built in August
1918 by United States Railroad Administration (USRA) and serviced
on February 18, 1920. SP&S 10053 was part of the road series
10000-10299 which was acquired from USRA. It would be 26 years and
the U.S. involvement in WWII before SP&S would acquire any more
new box cars. By 1963, many of the cars were near the end of their
revenue service and would be seen in M of W service into the late
1970's. |
