| This 34' wood
sheathed caboose with straight cupola was built for the New York
Central Railroad by Merchant’s Dispatch Transit, a subsidiary
of that road. It is painted box car red and lettered in white. Built
in the twentieth century’s mid to late teens, it saw service
with the NYC during its youngest days, when the railroad was formed
out of a reorganization of the New York Central & Hudson River,
and other properties on December 23, 1914. This caboose was serviced
in January 1940. |
