Santa Fe / REA Road # REX 4083 52' 2" Riveted Steel Express Reefer w/Plug Door Part #MTL-52030 N Scale Supply Price: New Release Date: December 2000
The Santa Fe Railroad built this 52' 2" riveted steel express reefer with plug door in late 1953 at their West Wichita shops. After 1960 it was repainted with this modern REA scheme of Kelly green sides and ends, aluminum roof, and white lettering. It was the last REA scheme applied to a Santa Fe reefer. Designed to be run on fast moving passenger trains and equipped with Commonwealth BX trucks to aid that purpose, these cars moved perishables, express packages, and mail. In August 1969, the REA was forced to release all of its express cars back to the railroads from which they were leased. |
