This 60’ 8” Thrall® centerbeam flat car with I-beam construction is painted gray with black Centex lettering. It was built at Thrall Car Manufacturing’s Chicago Heights, IL, plant in August 1989, and is one of 50 such cars operating under Chrysler Rail Transportation Corporation. The Centex cars are used to move the company’s wallboard products. Thrall® replaced their ‘opera-style’ partition with this I-beam construction in order to reduce car weight and increase load limit. With a few safety considerations (seen on partition ends) this upgrade has been very successful. The cars are equipped with Barber® roller bearing trucks.
