This 61' 8" bulkhead flat car is painted box car red with white lettering. It is equipped with Barber roller bearing trucks. It was built in January 1972. Among Southern Pacific's biggest traffic categories for many years was lumber. In the 1960s, lumber began to be packaged with steel strapping and shipped on bulkhead flat cars. SP's first cars of this type were converted from conventional flat cars in company shops, and were used for plasterboard service. But standardized cars from commercial builders soon became dominant.
