This 33' twin bay hopper with rib sides is part of Lot number 412H built by the American Car & Foundry at Berwick, Pennsylvania in August 1921. The lot consisted of 1,750 of these hoppers, all built to USRA design specification 1005. Number NYC 838495 is painted box car red with white lettering and logo. When serviced in February 1944, this Bettendorf truck-equipped hopper weighed in with a 1,880 cu ft, 110,000 lb capacity. The 1,750-unit lot was originally designated CCS&StL 80250 through 81999.
