This 33' twin bay hopper with composite sides is painted for Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe in box car red with white logo and lettering. It is part of a road series from 180400 to 180799, which were built by General American Transport Company between 1943 and 1944. The 100,000 lb capacity hopper rolls on Bettendorf trucks. Number ATSF 180736 was originally built with wood sides. After WWII, when steel was no longer being diverted to the war effort, 200 of these cars were refitted with steel sides in 1958. Many of these cars ran well into the 1970s.
