This 40’ steel
ice reefer with Preco fan is painted reefer yellow with box car red roof &
ends and black sill, red, black & white Monad herald, black arched ‘Northern
Pacific’ lettering and black slogan. Part of the first block of new steel reefers
built in October 1947 by Pacific Car & Foundry in Renton, Washington for Northern
Pacific Railway Co., N.P. 91039 was originally delivered with a 36 inch Monad
herald and black door hardware. Serviced and repainted in January 1960 in the
last scheme used on NP’s ice reefers; the slogan that reads ‘Scenic Route of the
Vista-Dome North Coast Limited’, with a 60 in. diameter NP Monad herald and door
hardware that matches the car side
