39' Single Dome Tank Car

Union Pacific received only 200 tankers in the 1930s and 40s, and this 39’ single dome tank car is one of them. It was built by the General American Tank Car Company in October 1937 and painted black with white logo and lettering. UP did rebuild many older tankers during those decades, and because of their durability, many were still in service in 1971, including 191 from this 200-car fleet. Many were later pressed into maintenance of way operations. This class O-50-6 tanker registers a 100,000 lb capacity and rolls on Bettendorf trucks. (last released May 1987)
