This 39’ single dome tank car was built in June1923 by General American Transportation Corporation. It is painted black with white lettering and bears Tide Water’s large ‘flying A’ logo — also in white. This unit represents ARA’s standard tank car design from the 1920s. Tank cars are specially built for whatever liquid they are intended to carry, with linings such as rubber, glass, enamel, nickel, or stainless steel. Pre WWII riveted construction was replaced by forge-welded construction then by fusion welded construction.
