This 50’ box car with plug and sliding doors and without roofwalk was painted in this modern scheme of UP brown with white lettering and red, white and blue logo, in August of 1972. Road number 170456 is one of 430 cars rebuilt at the Albina, Oregon shops, constructed from 40-foot, 55-ton cars that were built by the railroad in 1957. A limited number of cars received this lettering design. The stencil box was introduced in 1972 and used through 1974 when a newer configuration was developed.
