The Louisville & Nashville, known as ‘Old Reliable,’ received this 50' auto box car with double side doors and end door from Pullman-Standard in December 1940. It is painted box car red with white lettering on sides and ends. Number 99935 was part of a 100 car fleet that was similarly painted and equipped with coil elliptic trucks. ‘Old Reliable’ was a major class I southern railway operating 9,000 miles of track. In 1971 it bought Monon, and today is a major part of CSX. As automobiles became larger so did auto box cars. This 4,783 cu ft, 100,000 lb capacity car includes a 14’ 6” door opening to accommodate larger vehicles as well as a variety of loading facilities.
