This 3 bay ACF center flow® covered hopper with elongated hatches was built by the American Car Foundry, Huntington, WV, in April 1978. It is part of a 500-car fleet delivered to Rock Island in that year. It is painted Rock Island blue with white and black lettering on sides and ends. When ‘The Rock’ went bankrupt in 1979, many of these hoppers were divvied up amongst the railroads that absorbed Rock Island’s line. Number 800056 ended up with Milwaukee Road. It was seen in 1997 still wearing its Rock Livery, but the reporting mark was changed to SSW.
