| VIA’s
F40PH-2D has been the face of passenger train travel in Canada
since the 1980s and while there have been a number of inaccurate
F40 models painted in VIA colours, there has never been an accurate
N scale model of this 3000-horsepower Canadian workhorse. Until
now.
The F40PH-2D
was built in London, Ontario between 1986 and 1989. It features
a desktop control stand (hence the “D” in the designation);
a unique fuel tank and underframe arrangement; a unique carbody
design with custom panel and door locations; and numerous
other Canadian-only details.

Rebuilt F40PH-2D

Information |
| In 2010
VIA Rail Canada contracted CAD Railway Industries in Lachine,
Quebec, to rebuild its F40 locomotive fleet. This involved removal
of the HEP (Head End Power) alternator and installation of a
separate HEP generator in the rear of the locomotive. At the
same time the locomotive was given VIA’s green, grey and
yellow Renaissance paint scheme first seen on the P42DC locomotives
in 2001. By the end of 2012 all 52 F40PH-2D locomotives had
been rebuilt.
Rapido
Trains Inc. is delighted to introduce the only N scale model
ever produced of this uniquely Canadian passenger workhorse.

Dollar Bill Edition
In
2013 the Government of Canada issued a new polymer $10 banknote
featuring The Canadian au verso (on the back). The locomotive
was number 6403 and the VIA logo was replaced by the Canada
wordmark. We’re offering a special limited run of the
$10 bill version of 6403, complete with the Canada wordmark.
As an added bonus, 25 of the locomotives will have $10 bill
hidden in the box.
