As we approached the Summit we heard Hot Box Detector M.P. 647.5 set off by axle 306. The train pulled into Soldier Summit and stopped to cut out the Utah Railway helpers and inspect the defective car. The helper crew reported that the journal was nearly completely burned through and it was amazing the axle hadn't broke. It was decided to set the car out immediately which the helper crew did. The whole time this is happening we are blocked at the crossing by the first two SP AC's. Of course we didn't mind this too much as the radio chatter was pretty interesting. Once they got the train reassembled the engineer backed up about 100' so that we could cross and then pulled out down the West side of Soldier Summit. We later caught the Utah Railway helper set running light back to Martin. -Scott Phillips
