Now #40 pulls up past the switch and the conductor resets it back to the main. The engine waits for the conductor to grab onto the tendor for the ride to the front of the train.
At 76 tons with over 20,000 pounds of tractive effort #40 does its duty well.
I have finally gotten my chance to board the train, we have backed down the tracks and begun our uphill run. This is the view of Devil's Gate Bridge from below.
We are half way thru the loop looking downhill to the bridge.
The brakeman told me to ride in car #5, its about half way back on the train. He was right, best spot to catch the pictures of the engine. At this point I am still on stable ground.
Now the car I am in has ventured out onto the bridge and the engine has slowed to a crawl to let everyone view the canyon from 100' feet in the air.
