Burlington Northern & Santa Fe shares the lucrative Powder River Basin with Union Pacific. BNSF relies on their own fleet of Twin Tub Coal Gons to haul a large portion of this business. Before the merger, BN had these cars in three paint schemes. After the merger, BNSF received a batch in black and silver. Opting for a scheme that would utilize the new round BNSF emble, they switched from black to forest green in this latest batch.
