Pittsburgh &
Lake Erie Power in Color is a look at railroads serving
heavy industry in the industrial belt between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
and Youngstown, Ohio. Coverage includes the P&LE, known
as the "Little Giant" for the vast tonnage it carried
over a short route, as well as affiliated railroads Pittsburgh,
Chartiers, & Youghiogheny (PC&Y), Montour, and Youngstown
& Southern (Y&S). Steel and related industries were
the P&LE's lifeline, and when "Big Steel" collapsed
in the late 1980s, so did the Little Giant. Alco, EMD and FM
switchers worked with Alco PAs, RS3s and GP7s hauling tonnage
and passengers. See great images of the railroad's fleet of
U28Bs, GP38s, GP38-2s and SW diesels! P&LE Power in Color
is one of many Morning Sun books covering railroad motive power
rosters.
