This 40’ standard box car with single sliding door is painted box car red with white herald and white lettering. It was built by Northern Pacific at their Brainerd, Minnesota, shop in 1948 and serviced in 1957. It runs on black Bettendorf trucks. Number 12263 was part of the SP&S second order for 500, 40’ steel box cars. These cars were relettered in 1957 and received 50’ billboard letters which stepped downhill to the right. You may notice that 12263 still displays the original placement of the dimensional data and appears without the usual reporting mark.
