These 40’ standard box
cars with plug & sliding door are synthetic red with white lettering
and runon Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1963 as part of series 111000-111499
these cars were used by manyrailroads to transport oversized freight
or finished lumber which required double door cars like these tomake
loading and unloading easier. The plug door allowed for freight to be
stacked against it when sealed, unlike sliding doors, allowing for increased
capacity.
