Vermont Railway operated in the New England states as well as the
Canadian province of Quebec. The Vermont Central Railroad, chartered
in 1843, connected Montreal, Quebec, with New London, CT, using
a route along the shores of Lake Champlain, through the Green Mountains
and along the Connecticut River Valley. They also ran from Montreal
