This 50’
standard box car with plug door is painted black with a yellow
logo and lettering. Built in 1972, it runs on black roller bearing
trucks. The Seaboard Air Line merged with the Atlantic Coast Line
on July 1, 1967, to form The Seaboard Coast Line. About 1974,
SCL began advertising itself as “The Family Lines.” The title
was a marketing device, not a corporate name. The names in this
family: SCL, Louisville & Nashville, Clinchfield, Georgia
Railroad, and the West Point Route. The SCL continued to operate
trains of its predecessors. On November 1, 1980, SCL and Chessie
System were merged into the CSX Corporation. On December 29, 1982,
Louisville & Nashville was merged into SCL to form the Seaboard
System Railroad. |
