This 50’ box car with double
doors run on black Bettendorf trucks. The MP is a major class I railroad.
Mainlines extend from Chicago to El Paso and New Orleans to Denver,
with junctions at St. Louis, Kansas City and Dallas. MP is the largest
carrier of chemicals. The Missouri Pacific, or MOP for short, was a
consolidation of smaller railroads starting in 1870. Surviving the Jay
Gould era of the 1880’s, it moved ahead continuing to merge with other
lines until its final merger with Union Pacific on Dec. 22, 1982. The
circular “Buzz-saw” herald first appeared in 1888, and denotes the strong
sun shining on the rich lands it serves.
