This 40’ double-sheath
wood box car with single door is painted light gray with black USN
logo and lettering. It was serviced in September, 1971 at the U.S.
Naval Ammunition Depot in Concord, California, about 35 miles northeast
of San Francisco. The morning of April 28, 1973, 18 box cars loaded
with bombs began detonating in the Southern Pacific Railroad yard
at Roseville, CA, east of Sacramento. It is possible this car was
part of the group destroyed in this event, or the less dramatic
fate of delegation to home road service evident by its absence from
the Official Railway Equipment Registry. |
