This 50’ gondola with
fishbelly sides and drop ends is painted black with white lettering. It was built
in June 1960 and runs on black Bettendorf trucks. The Norfolk & Western Railway
was an operation of modest proportions that achieved recognition beyond contemporary
railroads of similar size. Before 1964, the N&W was known for its excellent
financial performance, which operated arguably the finest fleet of steam motive
power at the head of long coal trains.
