This 52’
2” riveted steel express reefer with plug door and black BX Express trucks is
painted black with reefer yellow sides and black lettering. One of a 350 car series,
purchased from REA in 1973, this car is one of the last ice-cooled reefers constructed
and was unusual for the time in that it was built with riveted instead of welded
sides. Still in independent service today, the SLC runs along its 13 miles connecting
local farmers of the San Luis Valley to the San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad,
which in turn connects with the Union Pacific.
