This
52’ riveted steel express reefer with plug door is painted Pullman
green with aluminum roof. Built by American Car and Foundry in
the late 1940s, these cars were designed for high speed service
in the transport of time-sensitive cargo such as produce. At speeds
up to 85 mph capacity was 32 tons, at higher speeds the limit
was 28 tons.
